Cursillos

Cursillos is a Spanish word meaning "little course" in Christianity. Involvement in this Spanish program is a chance to strengthen your relationship with Christ. It helps you evangelize all areas of your environment such as your family, school, church and place of business. The goal of the Cursillo is to have Christ be the prime influence in your life and in society. Cursillo is simply a method through which one's spirituality may be developed, lived and shared in any area of human life. For more information, please call Marco Flores at (707) 251-0479.

Developmentally Disabled Christian Ministries

All people have equal rights, freedoms, opportunities and privileges as citizens in society. The responsibility of the Christian Community is to implement the will of God in terms of asserting the dignity and equality of developmentally disabled individuals and to assist them in developing their potential towards greater independence and a better quality of life. Our Developmentally Disabled Christian Ministries (DDCM) team is part of an interdenominational group that gathers on a regular basis with those who are developmentally disabled to provide spiritual reflection and spiritually guided social activities.

One of the most exciting outcomes of this ministry has been the recent formation of a Handbell Choir. The members play the bells, "reading" the music as colored cards are displayed by the leader. They provide a spectacular accompaniment to our major liturgies during the year, bringing delight and pleasure to performers and parishioners alike.

For more information, please contact Jean Donohoe at (707) 253-2932.

Italian Catholic Federation

The Italian Catholic Federation is a family oriented, non-profit fraternal organization dedicated to promoting activities that build family spirit and bring men and women of all ages together. ICF members share their culture, heritage and religious beliefs - together they accomplish more than one can along.

Enjoy the fellowship of other Catholics and their families. By praying and playing together, we enrich ourselves, strengthen our family and spiritual lives, and share our blessings with one another. We are proud of our assistance to St. John's, the pastors and our community. The ICF is an example of the laity's participation in the apostolic mission of the Catholic Church. For information, please contact Marion Zanetell at (707) 224-3714.

Knights of Columbus

The Knights of Columbus is a Catholic men's fraternal benefit society that was formed to render financial aid to members and their families. Mutual aid and assistance are offered to sick, disabled and needy members and their families. Social and intellectual fellowship is promoted among members and their families through educational, charitable, religious, social welfare, war relief and public relief works.

Imagine being part of an organization that fills your heart and your mind with the joy of giving to others and the feeling that comes with making a difference. Knights are Catholic men, who are committed to making their community a better place, while supporting their Church. Being a Knight is more than camaraderie; it is being involved with your community; it is supporting your Catholic Church, clergy, religious, schools and all it's encompassing programs while enhancing your own faith; it is about protecting and enhancing your family life.

The Knights have long been the major supporter of the National Catholic Bishops Conference. Nationally, Knights donate several million dollars each year to support the Bishop's annual projects which include Family Life and Vocations. Annually, the Holy Father receives a contribution from the Knights to be used in his special charities. Since 1982 his Holiness has received nearly $30 million from the Order. The pope has repeatedly stated that he considers the Knights his Right Arm of the Church.

St. Vincent de Paul

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is a Christian voluntary organization, working with people who are poor and disadvantaged. Inspired by our principal founder, Frederic Ozanam, and our patron, St. Vincent de Paul, we seek to respond to the call every Christian receives: to bring the love of Christ to those in need. Through personal contact, we are committed to respecting the dignity of those we assist and to foster their self-respect. In the provision of material and other support, we assure confidentiality at all times and endeavour to establish relationships based on trust and friendship. We believe it is not enough to provide short-term material support. Those we assist must also be helped to achieve self-sufficiency in the longer term and the sense of self-worth this provides. When the problems we encounter are beyond our competence, we enlist the support of others with more specialized skills and knowledge. We are committed to identifying the root causes of poverty and social exclusion in our area, and, in solidarity with poor and disadvantaged people, to advocate and work for the changes required to create a more just and caring society. We provide $70,000-80,000 per year in direct assistance to persons living in poverty in Napa (60 percent non-parishioners). Assistance is provided primarily for emergency food, rent, utility and medical needs. For more information, please contact Bob Theisen at (707) 253-8299.
